MAR 1998 TO APR 1999
Project Consultant, Sony Europe GmbH, Cologne

Sony Corporation is one of the world's foremost multinationals and its structure is closely aligned with its product lines - consumer electronics, music, film and "PlayStation" games console.

As the European holding company for the consumer electronics business, Sony Europe GmbH is also responsible for change initiatives, including the pan-European roll-out of SAP R/3, the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

As Project Consultant, I supported the German and Benelux companies by:-

  • Team leading the redesign of finance and accounting processes to align with customer facing activities in sales, warehousing and distribution and materials management.
  • Acting as a finance team member during the configuration/build stage of two projects.
  • Designing, documenting and delivering user training.
  • Assisting with user acceptance and system load testing.
  • Improving the design and functionality of previously implemented systems.
  • Leading the team that investigated the feasibility of a Shared Service Centre, including benchmarking and process and technical structure design.
  • Assisting with ‘Y2K’ and Euro planning.
The companies supported were active in manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, sales and marketing, product repair and finally, corporate - for whom I designed and built a project cost control system for the new European HQ in Berlin (project cost DEM 90 Million).

Personal Achievements:-

Prior to this position I had no experience of SAP R/3, yet quickly managed to establish a reputation for professional excellence and balanced decision making such that Sony companies increasingly requested my services.
