MAY 1999 TO MAR 2001
Director, Taintech Creative Studios Ltd., Ireland

Taintech was a start-up, games software development company. Initially funded by myself and two partners, we secured 3rd party investment for the Business Plan - Phase 1, aimed at securing a publishing contract.

Effectively acting as General Manager, my role involved:-

  • Managing all financial, company secretarial and administrative matters.
  • Managing 3rd party relationships, e.g. investors and government bodies.
  • Forging alliances with co-development technology partners.
  • Establishing a presence amongst the global publishing community.
  • Software development planning including task analysis, milestone planning, quality assurance and testing.
  • Managing the studio and its 10 staff on a daily basis to ensure:-
  • Accurate project plans available.
  • Production milestones met.
  • Effective quality control and product testing.
  • Full game and technical documentation available.
  • Website content remained current.
Having presented our game demos to 10 publishers, we entered into contract negotiations with a US publisher for one of the games. Unfortunately, whilst negotiating the Heads of Agreement, the publisher pulled out due to 'financing difficulties'.

With little cash remaining and unable to secure further funding from our financiers we began to lay off staff, retaining a skeleton team only. Though we elicited some interest from two publishers, our funds ran out before we could reach contractual agreement and the studio had to be closed.

Personal Achievements:-

  • Creating a credible, honest business case - plan, VC presentations and due diligence - that convinced our financiers that we were worth backing.
  • Establishing excellent relationships with publishers and co-development partners.
  • Developing technical skills such that I am proficient in a number of programming languages and knowledgeable about software development.
